Experiment 2 submission

Angled overview shot of the entire structure. This "Bridge" connects to the Square House, Round House and the gym.
Staircase leading to the roundhouse. The middle is lined up with flowers as a way to promote and accept the natural world. The custom texture is placed on the stairs as a means to act as a transition between the party life of the roundhouse and the studious life of a student, as the staircase leads to the library. The flowers also act as a signal to highlight the changing environment.
This is a photo of the balcony outside the entrance of the library, overlooking the roundhouse. The custom textures on the floor promote the transition from one environment to the other, as explained before. The custom textures have also been added to the canopy above the benches. This area serves a variety of purposes, whether to study with mates, admire the view of the campus landscape or just resting.
This is a photo of the courtyard platform that connects to the squarehouse. Here the main points of interests are the sand sculpture, the moving garden and the organic canopy.
Here is the gallery space for students to present their architecture models. The models are to rise up from the display case in a similar manner to how plants in nature rise to acquire sunlight.
This is a photo of the tunnel connecting the building to the campus gym. The custom texture on top surface of the tunnel signifies the rough transition from a learning environment to a physical one.
This is a study area for students to relax and catch up on their lectures. Specifically placed within the staircase, a platform for movement, to signify that both activities complement one another.
View from library overlooking the racecourse and beyond.

Moving Elements

Due to complications while using Lumion I was unable to animate these movements on the software. Nevertheless, I will try my best to present my vision for the moving elements in my design.
This is a concept for the moving gardens which I planned to place in the recreational area leading up to the square house. The idea was for platforms holding significant flowers, such as the rose flower and the sunflower, to move side to side in a harmonious fashion. The significance of this movement is to highlight the relationship between man and nature, how civilization has come a long way from the stone ages to the point where we are able to manipulate the physical and genetic movements of nature. Similarly, nature is able to guide us emotionally due to the meanings and occasions that are exemplified with specific plants, thus for the inclusion of the aforementioned significant flowers.
This is an idea for the gallery section of my building. In this concept, the student's models would rise up the display case. The intention for this mechanism was to emulate the manner in which nature rises from the ground to bathe in the glory of sunlight, similarily the student is able to present their work with confidence as it rises up the display case.

Inspiration from organic architecture

One key feature in my proposed design is the recreational/study area on the first floor. I plan to make this an outdoor space as one of the representations of the theory I developed, of civilisation and nature working together, and plan to use a canopy inspired by organic architecture. Here I present the basic shape of the canopy.

Animated Gifs

The following are animated gifs that represent the formation of the main building of the proposed design (minus the third floor). The first gif is based on a 2 point perspective sketch while the second gif is based on an axonometric sketch.

Refined Bubble Diagrams

Now that I've gotten a better understanding of the area my spaces will encompass inside the proposed facility, I proceeded to sketch more refined bubble diagrams to represent the spaces and their relationships with each other.

Despite the changes with regards to my bubble diagram I've still decided to keep my "massing elements" which I've constructed earlier and use it to represent the basic shape of the proposed building.

Calculating square metres

After enough thought, I concluded that housing a facility that would house students of all years and staff would be inefficient due to there already being facilities such as Red Centre and Robert Webster building. As such I have redesigned the purpose of the proposed facility to house 1st and 2nd-year students exclusively. This new building will be made exclusively for them. The following gives a rough idea of the spaces inside the facility, dedicated to the desired patrons.

Inspiration from the organic architect

The following link explains the projects undertaken by Koichi Takada and his motivations for undertaking these projects.
From this article, I have come with the following conclusion:
In order to harmonize society and nature, one should not solely focus on imitation but instead, place importance on how they both work together to express landscape and culture.

Experimenting with One Point Perspective Drawings with Massing Elements and the Circulation Cross

Below is an attempt at sketching a one-point perspective drawing of the circulation cross:
From there I decided to experiment with massing elements and came up with the following simple designs, also attempted in one-point perspective:

When these ideas are combined together, the following is achieved (Sketched graphically):

Hypothesising spaces with Bubble Diagrams

The following diagrams give an idea of the circulation of the building as well as its internal structure. These are not the final design of what the building will feature but will serve as a guide for the final design.

The Beginning of Experiment 2: The circulation Cross

The proposed idea is to connect the newly designed faculty building to the Square House, The Round House, and The Gym. The connection to the Square House allows an easy passageway for students to access the modelling equipment provided there. The connection to the Round House gives students (and also staff) an avenue for the leisurely entertainment provided by that building. The connection to the Gym encourages both students and staff to look after themselves, reinforcing the idea of "healthy mind, healthy body".
